We are a tuition-free, public charter school open to any Minnesota student who is serious about developing or practicing skills for expressing themselves creatively while also participating in rigorous and expansive liberal arts and service-learning programs.
For the 2020-21 school year, any student entering 9th or 10th grade who qualifies for public education in the state of Minnesota, and submits a timely application can attend The Studio School. We practice an open admissions process to give all eligible students an opportunity to attend regardless of race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, language proficiency, physical or mental ability, or academic or other achievement. We limit admission only by grade level and class size capacity.
The Studio School Board of Directors will assess if an admissions lottery is needed as applications are collected through March 25, 2020. If a lottery is required to provide equal attendance opportunity to all students who apply, it will be held on April 7, 2020. Notices about the lottery will be announced via email to all applicants, published on the school’s website, and conducted in a public forum. After the lottery, students who are not accepted will be placed on a waiting list by grade, and will be offered admission as circumstances permit.
We will continue to enroll students on an ongoing basis whether a lottery is conducted on April 7, 2020 or not. Should we reach our full capacity of 100 students for the 2020-21 school year after the lottery is conducted, student enrollments will continue to be collected, and students will be placed on our waiting list in the order we receive their form.
The Studio School shall only give enrollment preference to a sibling of an enrolled pupil and to
a foster child of that pupil's parents, and may only give preference for enrolling children of the school's staff before accepting other pupils by lot. Students will be placed in the lottery by grade.
