Dear Studio School Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I report The Studio School will not be opening in Fall 2020. There are several factors that have affected this decision, but the road blocks we've encountered throughout the complex startup process, especially in the last six months, have made it impossible for us to continue our efforts to launch. Although we know it is the right decision at this time, we are sad that our vision has not been allowed to manifest, and that we will not be serving the wonderful community of students and families that was starting to take shape.
I hope you know how much it has meant to all of us on the Founding Board of Directors that you saw hope, opportunity and possibility in our school. The Studio School was teacher-founded and teacher powered, and we embarked on this journey with the simple goal of offering a unique, creative, hands-on high school experience that would better engage students in their learning; the kind of experience we know all students deserve. We have worked hard over the last four years to develop our vision into a school grounded in the contemporary world that truly celebrates and helps all students develop a personal voice as true, contributing global citizens, and we have loved finding support for our ideas and vision from other like-minded people like you. Thank you, sincerely, for all your support over the past several years!
For those who enrolled at our school, you have already been notified of this news via email, but if you need suggestions for other schools to consider for Fall 2020, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Although I know there aren’t any other local high schools offering quite as unique an approach, curriculum, mission or culture as The Studio School, I hope you can find somewhere you feel is a good fit, and I wish you the best of luck on your educational journey going forward!

needs to be reinvented!
The Studio School was the only public, tuition-free, charter high school in the Twin Cities combining creative, STEAM-integrated, project-driven learning with academic rigor and empowered social action. We planned to offer an exemplary studio-based visual arts, media arts, design, and engineering curriculum combined with rigorous, interdisciplinary liberal arts studies, and local, national, and world-wide experiential service-learning opportunities for all students in grades 9-12.
Our hands-on classes were designed to empower students to re-engage in learning as they apply knowledge and skills to real problems and projects, so they could thrive in school and prepare for their future!
Our Mission was to cultivate students’ capacity for creativity, curiosity, empathy, and 21st Century citizenship while supporting the development of their personal creative voice and leadership abilities.
